THE OC CANCELLED: COULD IT MOVE TO THE CW - JANUARY 4 2007

Somewhere, Mischa Barton is smiling.Or, well, that’s just my guess anyway. But I know one thing for sure: Those of us who’ve been watching The O.C. this season know that the news that is about to be confirmed any nanosecond by Fox—that The O.C. indeed has been canceled—is nothing short of heartbreaking.According to my sources, Fox will air the last episode of The O.C. on Feb. 22, and then the four-season-old series will go off the air for good. Sadly, despite The O.C.’s creative uptick this season (and the addition of Autumn Reeser, aka Taylor, who breathed new life into the show), the ratings have not been strong enough for Fox execs to justify a fifth season. Of course, the true tragedy is that the once Nielsens-robust series was plopped onto Thursday nights (first 8 p.m., then 9 p.m.), facing off against the likes of NBC’s comedy lineup, CSI and Grey’s Anatomy. I don’t care how ripped and raw Ryan was this season (see photo, wipe drool), that was nobody’s fight to win.On the bright side, I’m told by sources at the CW network that head honcho Dawn Ostroff is “extremely interested” in picking up The O.C. for the following season. Of course, the real matter is whether the fledgling network can afford the series. (Personally, I hope so.) And of course, all the actors involved would need to stay on board, including the allegedly recently split Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson, and Josh Schwartz, who just landed a deal for a new thriller drama pilot on NBC.Hmmm…Seems to me the cards may be stacked against us seeing The O.C. after Feb. 22, but this fan isn’t giving up hope yet. How about you? on cancellation!

THE OC CANCELLED - JANUARY 3 2007

According to many new articles released today The OC has been given the axe and producers were told today that The OC will air no more than 16 episodes this season and is being cancelled after that!

(Here are the sources: TV Gide Community And TV Addict And Zap2It And TheFutronCriticThis is the article: The sun will set for the last time on THE O.C. when the series ends its four-season run Thursday, Feb. 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The countdown has begun, with all-original episodes airing from Thursday, Jan. 4 through the last episode on Feb. 22.THE O.C. stars Peter Gallagher (Sandy Cohen), Kelly Rowan (Kirsten Cohen), Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan Atwood), Adam Brody (Seth Cohen), Melinda Clarke (Julie Cooper), Rachel Bilson (Summer Roberts), Autumn Reeser (Taylor Townsend) and Willa Holland (Autumn Reeser).

Set in Orange County, California, THE O.C. premiered in August 2003. It follows a group of friends and families whose lives were changed by the arrival of an outsider – Ryan Atwood – to their ocean-side community of Newport Beach.

THE O.C. revived the teen drama genre while including humorous and heartfelt adult storylines. Shortly after its summer premiere, THE O.C. was a pop culture phenomenon – its actors are household names and its indie music (and subsequent six soundtracks) and hip California wardrobe are sought-after in stores. The show’s Newport Beach locale also has become a popular tourist attraction as fans visit the real locations featured in their favorite episodes.

“THE O.C. Season Four finale will also be the series finale. This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close,” said Josh Schwartz, creator and executive producer of THE O.C. “Thanks to the hard work of our cast, crew and writers, we have enjoyed our best season yet, and what better time to go out than creatively on top. It has been an amazing experience and a great run. For a certain audience, at a certain time, THE O.C. has meant something. For that we are grateful.”

The Battle begins here! Now is the time to stand together and save our favourite show from cancellation! We will not sit back and watch FOX tear The OC apart! Details will be posted here tomorrow, please return to see our plan of action and join in on our mission to save The OC from cancellation!!

The fourth season of THE O.C. will premiere Thursday, Nov. 2 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. This season hits the ground running with THE O.C.’s trademark mix of heart, humor, drama, action and romance.Josh Schwartz, creator and executive producer of THE O.C., says of the new season: “I’m very proud of these episodes and I think they convey real emotion and drama but also, more importantly, humor and heart. I believe our fans will find this focus on our core characters and their relationships really satisfying. The show has been reinvented; rebooted. Personally, it feels like THE O.C. is back. I hope our fans feel the same way.”When the series returns for Season Four, high school seems like a distant memory to the young graduates, who have been thrust into adulthood after the death of their beloved friend Marissa. The Cohens struggle to keep Ryan focused on the future, fighting the forces that threaten to pull him back into his old life. SANDY (Peter Gallagher) returns to the Public Defender’s office, and he and KIRSTEN (Kelly Rowan) find themselves the happiest they have ever been with each other while rising to the challenge of keeping their family together.SUMMER (Rachel Bilson) has left Orange County and is attending Brown University in Rhode Island, where she has reinvented herself as a left-leaning, tree-hugging activist under the sway of CHE (guest-star Chris Pratt); out are Summer’s celebrity gossip magazines and in are her “Chicken-lovers of the world unite!” flyers. Meanwhile, SETH (Adam Brody), lonely in the O.C. and working at a local comic book store, turns to watching golf with DR. ROBERTS (Michael Nouri) and hanging out with the Newpsies for social stimulation.KAITLIN COOPER (new series regular Willa Holland) returns to the O.C. as the No. 1 troublemaker at The Harbor School. Over the summer she has befriended Luke’s younger twin brothers, ERIC (Corey Price) and BRAD WARD (Wayne Dalglish), who worship her. And TAYLOR TOWNSEND (new series regular Autumn Reeser) is hiding out and speaking French in the O.C. after her mysterious romance in Paris.Chris Pratt will appear in a multi-episode arc starting on the season premiere, playing Summer’s environmentalist activist Svengali, Che. Pratt was last seen on “Everwood” as “Bright Abbott.” He was recently on the big screen opposite Amy Sedaris in “Strangers with Candy” and will next appear opposite Cary Elwes in “Walk the Talk.” Pratt was born in Minnesota and currently lives in Los Angeles.Pop/R&B teen sensation Chris Brown, 17, begins production on THE O.C. in late October; episodes featuring Brown will air on FOX later in the season. THE OC SEASON 4 SPOILER!

When the series returns for season four, high school seems like a distant memory to the young graduates, who have been thrust into adulthood after the life-changing events of graduation night. Who heads to college to try to put the past behind them? Who stays in town because they can’t let the past go? Will the person responsible for the tragedy go free? Or will someone decide that the way to heal is through revenge? It’s a battle for Ryan’s soul as the Cohens struggle to keep him focused on the future, fighting the forces that threaten to pull him back into his old life.
Sandy returns to the Public Defender’s office, and he and Kirsten find themselves reaching out to another troubled teen, but this one is not a stranger. It’s Kaitlin Cooper, the number-one troublemaker at The Harbor School, and too much to handle for her mother Julie, who’s off making some trouble of her own. The person most excited about leaving high school finds himself back there – as a teacher. And new cast member Taylor Townsend finds herself with some unlikely new roommates – and family members. As much as the arrival of Ryan has changed the lives of this community, so too has the departure of Marissa. The season hits the ground running with just the right mix of heart, humor, action and romance as our characters embrace their futures together. It’s a new day on THE O.C. … Source: FOX

DON’T BLAME JOSH, IF IT WEREN’T FOR HIM THE OC WOULDN’T BE!

Here’s a secret: we still kind of like Josh Schwartz. Though the youngest ever creator of an hour-long network series has appeared to have lost some of his creative steam this year, his show, Fox’s “The O.C.”, was a breakout hit in its first season. Apparently someone else still likes him too, as the series was recently given an early pickup for season three despite lagging ratings.

With “The O.C.”, Schwartz re-structured the teen soap genre that had been covered in the past by 90210 and its ilk, with faceted characters and edgy music selections, such as Spoon, the Doves, and Turin Brakes. The first seven episodes of the series contained music solely from the playlists of Schwartz’s personal iPod, and the show’s multiple soundtrack CDs have sold well.

Although the show’s Schwartz-penned quote “Welcome to the O.C., bitch,” has earned itself a place in the pop culture lexicon, it was the invention of the uber-holiday “Chrismukkah” that has reached staying power as an actual, celebrated holiday last year, complete with corresponding greeting cards.

Schwartz is also more of a public figure than most creator-producers. He is frequently photographed at parties and premieres hobnobbing alongside the cast of “The O.C.”, and with his good looks, could very well be mistaken for a member of that cast instead of the brains behind it.

MISCHA BARTON TO GO DESPERATE

Mischa Barton is reportedly being lined up for a role in TV sensation Desperate Housewives. After quitting The OC - the teen show that made her famous - the British-born star is rumoured to be discussing a new role with Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry.Cherry’s spokesperson says, “He’s interviewing and auditioning all the time.“I’m sure Mischa would be a welcome asset to the show but who knows what will happen?”

THE O.C LOSES PRIMETIME REAL ESTATE

savetheocremake.jpg (THE CAST)

Fox is retooling its strategy as it heads into the Thursday-night fray this fall.Instead of sending its 9 p.m. staple, The O.C., into battle against CSI and Grey’s Anatomy every week, the network announced Wednesday that it has ordered up a mere 16 episodes of the rich-kid drama for 2006-07.Considering that 22 episodes of a show constitute your typical season and The O.C. has averaged 25 a season during its three-year run, this doesn’t bode well for the primetime soap, although a Fox spokesperson said that since it doesn’t premiere until Nov. 2 (allowing for baseball’s World Series) this fall, there’s no technical reason to have a full schedule of episodes. But with Mischa Barton not returning for a fourth go-round and the surviving O.C. denizens “growing up” and heading off to college in the fall, it looks as if Fox is packing up its beachfront property. If the network airs all 16 new episodes in a row, it will be out of O.C. by February, giving Fox the opportunity to take a midseason replacement for a test drive, Variety reported Wednesday.ABC announced last month that Grey’s Anatomy would be moving from Sundays to the juicy Thursday-at-9 spot that has been dominated by CSI for years. NBC had originally planned to add its highly anticipated new Matthew Perry drama, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, into the mix, but ended up sending the freshman series to Mondays and shelving Medium until midseason. The surprise hit Deal or No Deal will anchor the 9 p.m. slot for NBC instead.Despite its already competitive Thursday perch last season, The O.C. still attracted 5.7 million viewers a week. But if any of those Adam Brody fans also want to check in on Dr. McDreamy, the remaining residents of Newport may end up joining Marissa Cooper in drama series heaven.

WHATS NEXT FOR MISCHA BARTON?

Her role in The O.C. may be history, but things are on the up for Mischa Barton. Currently making a film with Richard Attenborough and set to study at RADA this summer, she talks fashion, fame and the Hollywood It-crowd

Mischa Barton looks pretty good for someone who just died in a car crash. American teenagers tuning into the season finale of youth soap phenomenon The O.C. were distraught to see one of their most popular characters – Mischa’s alter ego, the beautiful, privileged, Californian calamity case Marissa Cooper – expiring in the arms of her ex-boyfriend. Untimely soap deaths range from the sublime (Emmerdale’s Batley the dog) to the ridiculous (Dynasty’s Moldavian massacre). ‘So I have to say, I feel very lucky!’ winces Mischa. The big death scene could have been camp, but Mischa is a young player who takes her game seriously. ‘I had to die right on camera, so I wanted it to be up to standard for the fans,’ she explains. ‘I didn’t want people laughing.’

The 20-year-old, 5ft 9in New Yorker is in Canada shooting a new movie, but right now the two of us are stalking the streets of Toronto looking for a vegan restaurant. Students eating chips spin to see if it’s really her, checking out her long bare legs and preppy top. A paparazzo lurks behind Mischa, as usual; the Barton cheekbones are worth a tabloid fortune. Her skin could be that of a child and her eyes are vast and blue. Even up close, Mischa Barton looks like a cartoon kitten.

‘Wish I’d brought a camera, look at this city – such a good atmosphere,’ she sighs. ‘I had to be in bed early, but one street seemed to have about ten clubs.’ Mischa Barton is a free spirit with a strong work ethic. ‘I get up at 4.30 to get to the set. Sleeping in is my favourite thing on the planet.’ You’d certainly need a kip after three years playing Marissa, what with an eating disorder, lesbian affairs and your mum shagging your ex. Oh, and shooting your ex-boyfriend’s jailbird brother after he attempted to rape you. Confused? Marissa occasionally was. ‘We sometimes shot two episodes at once, 12- or 14-hour days,’ she says. The effort paid off with global stardom: Mischa appears in 33,500 different photos on one fansite alone.

‘Beverly Hills [90210] and Melrose Place were so huge in their day, but looked a little dated; people were ready for something edgier, grittier,’ she says. And grittier it was. One of the most interesting episodes was when Marissa overdosed in Mexico – ‘a bottle of tequila, maybe Vicodin,’ she says. Marissa’s lesbian kiss, however, was ’something of an anticlimax’, although Mischa did giggle with co-star Olivia Wilde. ‘But Olivia always makes me giggle, she’s so funny.’ Mischa is still friends with The O.C. crew: ‘Leaving is like leaving school – you miss them.’

She’s excited about moving on, though. ‘For the first time, I have freedom,’ she says, but she’s also grateful for the security that comes with a hit show, which has allowed her to buy her new Los Angeles home, for instance. ‘It’s comfortable, Mediterranean style, nothing glam, but I love my pool and my dogs play in my backyard.’

KELLY ROWAN (KIRSTEN COHEN) HAS CONFIRMED THAT THE OC SEASON 4 HAS BEEN PICKED UP FOR ONLY 16 EPISODES!!

kellyseason31.jpg

Like i said, this is one of the reasons why i’ve dedicated this site to saving the oc! The show is only getting renewed for 16 episodes for season 4!

“Rowan says the hectic shooting schedule of The O.C. is all-consuming. They typically start filming in early July and wrap the following May. And as followers of the Fox drama know, in last week’s season finale, the willowy teen-in-angst Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton) was killed in a car wreck — a plot twist that Rowan and her cast mates didn’t even know was coming. “We found out during the last episode,” insists Rowan, who plays the winsome, blond Kirsten, wife of public defender Sandy (Peter Gallagher).“The last six pages were missing at the end of the script. We were informed we were going to shoot two different endings and then make a decision.”Rumours swirled that Barton wanted out to pursue a feature-film career, but if that’s the case, Rowan’s not spilling dirt. “I have no idea,” she insists. “All I know is we just got picked up for 16 new episodes. Still, it’s hard to lose a cast member,” she adds. “She was a really important element of the show, and there was a real bond between those four teenage characters.“I still enjoy doing The O.C. But series TV has its challenges. You are playing the same character year after year.”What does kelly mean when she says “I still enjoy doing the oc but series tv has it’s challenges. You are playing the same character year after year” THAT LINE REALLY FREAKS ME OUT BECAUSE KELLY IS SAYING THAT THE PRODUCERS KNOW THAT THE SHOW IS GETTING OLD AND THERE IS ONLY SO MUCH YOU CAN DO! IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE GIVING UP ON THE SHOW……………mmmmh Something to think about hey?

1mischaseason31.jpg

MISCHA BARTON HAPPY TO LEAVE THE OC :-)

Mischa Barton says it was better to be killed in a car wreck on “The O.C.” than to leave the Fox teen drama in “one of those lame farewells.”Barton’s character, Marissa Cooper, died in the arms of ex-boyfriend Ryan Atwood ( Benjamin McKenzie) after Ryan lost control of his sport utility vehicle and crashed. The third season’s closer aired last week.“Well, I was really excited that I get to die, to be honest,” the 20-year-old actress tells Newsweek magazine in an interview. “I’ve done pretty much everything else with the character. It was better than one of those lame farewells.”Marissa had been central to “The O.C.” since the show’s debut in 2003. The
Newport Beach teen had battled depression and drug and alcohol abuse, had a brief lesbian relationship and was expelled from her posh high school for shooting a man.
Although rumors flew in recent months that Barton was ready to leave the show, she says her departure was the producers’ decision.“But I really think it’s best to do movies now,” says Barton, who co-stars with Hayden Christensen in “Guilty Pleasures,” slated for release next year.“I was also thinking of spending a month in
London, living there and taking a course in acting,” she says. “Sometimes it’s nice to go back to your roots.”
Will she ever return to “The O.C.” in a dream sequence?“Oh, God. I hope not. That would be cheesy.”
